The Assiniboia Club was started in 1915 as a faculty-student discussion group for foreign students. The purpose of the club was to gain a more intimate knowledge of the various people who settled in Western Canada, and to attempt to improve Canadian society through the promotion of tolerance. The elections mentioned in the text were never held, as the club was dissolved following the 1916-17 academic year due to lack of interest.
