“On Saturday night, January 17,
the two first games of the season were played off in the ‘Gym.”
Although the floor space was rather small, and several of the players
inexperienced, the teams made a very fair exhibition. The first game was
between the ‘Sophs’ and First Year Arts, and was somewhat
one-sided, resulting in a score of 17-8 in favour of the freshies. Porter
of the winning team was undoubtable the best on the floor. The second
game between Junior and Senior Arts was keenly contested, and resulted
in a score of 13-10 in favour of the Seniors. MacMurchy and Hughes were
the stars for the winners. Warman put up splendid game for the Juniors.” - The Sheaf, February 1914
These were the first basketball games played on campus. The "Gym" was in the basement of the College Building. The low ceilings would have made shots from the outside rather difficult.
