18 August 1960 - oral contraceptives marketed for the first time
13 August 1961 - wall seals border between East and West Berlin
13 October 1961 - Saskatchewan introduces first Medical Care Insurance bill
2 May 1962 - Canadian dollar drops to 92.5 cents US
22 October 1962 - Cuban Missile Crisis threatens nuclear war
22 November 1963 - US President John F. Kennedy assassinated. Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr. and
Robert F. Kennedy would also be murdered before the end of the decade.
1964 - social insurance numbers are introduced
15 February 1965 - new national flag proclaimed and raised for the first time
