Humour: College Pranks and Gags
Dawn Sommers, Movie Star
To drum up support for the annual Blood Drive of 1954
the Blood Drive Committee had an excellent idea. They would contact Paramount
Studios and have a Hollywood starlet come to Saskatoon to advertise for
the event. The actress supposedly arrived from Montana, where she had
been performing in an off-Broadway production. Though the young woman
looked strikingly similar to local Winnipeg actress Marie-Anne Meyers,
visiting students from the University of Manitoba never mentioned the
fact to anyone on campus. CFQC even held an interview with the starlet,
airing it even after anonymous tipsters indicated that the woman was a
fraud.
