Skating has always been a popular form of recreation among the student population. With the opening of Rutherford Rink in 1929, both recreational and “fancy” skating became part of the student experience. Figure skating started as a campus club, moved to become an inter-varsity sport and eventually returned to club status.

Soccer

Soccer was one of the first sports played by the students of the University of Saskatchewan. It was most popular on campus in the years proceeding both of the World Wars but by the 1950s it had disappeared as an inter-varsity sport. It lived on as an inter-mural activity and in recent years has experienced a renaissance, once again joining the ranks of the University’s inter-collegiate athletics.
