The University at War: World War II
The 1941 Greystone yearbook was dedicated to Winston Churchill “with
admiration and gratitude;” the “newsreel” feature, begun
in 1940, reviewed the year’s events both abroad and on campus and
suggested “surely we can find some glimmer of hope if we are to
carry on.” Each dean wrote about his or her college and the war
effort. On a lighter note, a motif of the College Building owl was used
throughout the yearbook, with various quotes and rhyming couplets.
