The Dramatic Society was formed in 1914 as an independent club on campus before it became the Dramatic Directorate in 1921-22. Events put on by the organization included College Nights and University Night, both variety shows, and various plays. Starting in the fall of 1939 a department of Radio Drama handled the production of radio pieces; in 1944 a Radio Directorate was established. The Dramatic Directorate also handled the Student Date Book, where all campus events had to be registered along with the faculty chaperones and room locations in order to alleviate conflicting scheduling among the colleges.
