Science"The two younger chaps, Stuart McVeigh and John Rea, took care of most of the meteorological work, which included balloon flights and kite flights with meteorographs. They flew a series of four kites on piano wire into the cloud level, and then we all had to get together to wind them in, especially if the wind picked up McVeigh would try to catch one of the kites with a meteograph on it as it came down. If he could not catch it, it would crash on the rocks and he would have to repair it before he could use it again. We had a machine with a winder for incoming wire when we were pulling in the kite."
