Educate: Audience Specific Campaigns
Building upon the public awareness initiatives (“Motivate”),
it proved important to provide specific and practical educational
information for various target audiences (children, youth, older
adults, workplace settings, etc).
The objective was to provide individuals in each target audience
with relevant information about:
- the type and amount of physical activity that would be a desirable
goal
- advice on how to get started…and keep going
- personal health, social and other benefits of being active
- physical activity as the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle
A second objective of some of the educational information was to
address the “settings” in which individuals can be physically
active, and how these settings can support personal action:
- schools
- workplaces
- community sport and recreation programs
- volunteer organizations
- family activities
- the great outdoors
A third objective was to provide information and hand-out resources
for leaders in these settings (teachers, health promotion professionals,
volunteer leaders, etc.) to assist them in better performing their
role. Most of these educational resources were corporately sponsored,
written and produced by ParticipACTION, and provided free to local
leaders who were the distributors and instructors.
