Scope and contentFile contains a photocopy of Anderson's article as published in Saturday Night Magazine in August, 1983. It tells the story of the Conne River Micmac who have been fighting to gain Indian status under the federal Indian act since 1970. They were alerted of their rights by an MA student from Ohio who discovered 19th century documents relating to the Conne River settlement and brought them to the peoples' attention. Although they had been promised status by three different ministers of Indian Affairs, as of 1983 they were still non-status. One potential problem suggested is their claim to a three mile stretch land along the Conne River that was the only federal land in Newfoundland.
