Scope and contentA 171 page report published by the Minister of Supply and Services Canada in 1977. The report was requested by the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Warren Allmand, as a preliminary inquiry into (a) the social and economic impacts of constructing a gas pipeline in the Southern Yukon, and (b) the "attitudes of Yukoners" towards the proposal. The report begins by describing the existing social and economic conditions in the Yukon, mainly by comparing them to the conditions in the North West Territories. The document has discussions on Native-Newcomer relations, the past affects of the Alaska highway, a list of conditions to be met before the construction of a pipeline begins, and suggestions for alternate routes for the pipeline. The remaining chapters discuss in more detail the reasons for their conditions and suggestions and give the reader an excellent snapshot of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal life in the Yukon in 1977. This includes how the various peoples in the Yukon view their past in relation to the present and future. Chapters in the report include: Employment and Training, Economic Impact, Social Impact, Yukon Indian Land Claim, Dempster Lateral, Planning and Regulation and Compensation.
