| Scope and content | This file contains photocopies of a bibliography of sources pertaining to Aboriginal women and a paper titled "Native Women and the Criminal Justice System: An Increasing Minority." The bibliography was prepared under a SSHRCC grant for the Regional Workshop on Women in the Economy, held at Simon Fraser University in September 1982. It was made in "response to a need identified by several researchers and teachers for a current guide to published materials and films by or about Native Women (Inuit, Indian, Metis) in Canada." It is a list of books available in public or university libraries and is divided into the geographic regions of Canada. The paper on Native women in the criminal justice system was a report prepared for the Ontario Native Women's Association in 1982. It contains several descriptions of the types of female Native offenders and the disadvantages they faced in the justice system of the day. Arrests, profiles, probations, support groups and agencies are some of the many topics addressed. The report also contains an extensive list of recommendations. | |
