Historical noteMr. Shepherd was a farmer, author and curator of the Western Development Museum, Saskatoon. His papers consist of personal correspondence, 1938-1977, subject files, 1933-1977; books, 1961-1977 and newspapers. Among the subject files are ones on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Cypress Hills area, Dakota people, and the Western Development Museum. The Books section is mainly about books he wrote.
Scope and contentThis file contains correspondence regarding the marking of Fort Carlton, a copy of "Carlton House on the Saskatchewan" by Frank L. Farley, the purchase of the Batoche rectory for use as an historic site, and Lieutenant Howard, the American operator of the Gatling gun at the Battle of Batoche. Also included are typescripts and newspaper clippings concerning the uprising, and a copy of "The Life and Death of Louis Riel," which consists of three papers presented at the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, Vancouver, June 26, 1964, and published in the Canadian Psychiatric Association Journal, Vol. 10, No. 4.
