Scope and content | This file contains a presentation by Gary Metallic that continues with the history of the Mi'kmaq Nation in Canada. He advises the Commission that he "must caution Canadian Governments against continuing to prosecute our people in your courts for exercising their treaty rights." Metallic also states that civil law is incompatible with Mi'kmaq law, as civil law is based on individual rights and Mi'kmaq is based on collective rights. A question-and-answer session with the Commissioners follows the presentation. | |
