Historical noteSainte-Marie came here in the mid-1960s to advocate the preservation of Mistusseni Rock. The rock, claimed to be a sacred Cree site, was eventually flooded by the man-made Diefenbaker Lake created as a result of the South Saskatchewan River Dam project. Saint-Marie was born on the Piapot reserve near Regina, but was adopted and raised in one of the North-eastern states. In the sixties she was a well-known Indian activist in the United States.
