Scope and contentThe file contains a presentation on behalf of Secwepemc re: Chiefs Memorial 1910 by Chief Nathan Matthew, Chief Antoine Archie, Chief Lenny Sellars, and Bob Manuel. The presenters discuss the rights of the Secwepemc or Shuswap people, in particular with regards to a Memorial presented to Sir Wilfrid Laurier in the 1900s which "is the same kind of position we maintain today, in terms of our approach to land title and our rights and the way in which we wish to have a relationship with other people." The presenters also discuss associated issues such as land title, water rights, the Shuswap comprehensive land claim, and related issues. Commissioner Mary Sillett discusses some of the Aboriginal rights issues raised with the presenters.
