Historical noteDr. Waiser recieved provincial and university funding to write a new provincial history to coincide with the Provincial Centennial in 2005. The book was aimed at appealing to a popular audience while offering graduate students experience in historical research. When completed it was presented as a gift to the province from the University of Saskatchewan.
Scope and contentThe file contains working files for the book Saskatchewan: a new history, specifically dealing with the premiership of Allan Blakeney. Contents pertaining to Aboriginal topics include: an excerpt from the study “Saskatchewan and Aboriginal Peoples in the 21st Century: Social Economic and Political Change and Challenges” by David Smith; handwritten research notes on poverty in Saskatchewan; a copy of a Regina Leader Post editorial entitled “Mississippi North looks inevitable” by Murray Mandryk (Oct. 29, 2003); handwritten research notes on the paper “The Blakeney Government and the Settlement of Treaty Indian Land Entitlements in Saskatchewan, 1975-1982.” By James Pitsula (1989); a copy of Chapter 5: Indian and Native Policy in Southern Saskatchewan (Jerry Hammersmith and Bob Hauk) from Policy Innovation in the Saskatchewan Public Sector, 1971-82, ed Eleanor D. Glor.
