Scope and contentFile contains a variety of materials relating to the Northwest Uprising of 1885. Includes a variety of first hand accounts, booklets, and newspaper articles. Also includes a list of prisoners confined by the NWMP at Prince Albert in May 1885, a sketch of the "fort of refuge" constructed to defend Prince Albert, two copies of a booklet entitled "Reminiscences of the Riel Rebellion of 1885: As Told by Old Timers of Prince Albert and District Who Witnessed Those Stirring Days," a typed paper entitled "William Diehl, 82, Helped Take Riel; Carried First News of Arrest," an insert of Western People entitled "North West at war: People and places of the 1885 Rebellion" produced for the centennial of the events, an insert from the Prince Albert Daily Herald entitled "Be There! Batoche 85, Centennial of the Northwest Resistance" produced in 1985, some unattributed typed notes discussing the "Beardy escapade at Duck Lake 1880," a booklet entitled "Four Months Under Arms" recalling the experiences of one Hugh S. Nelson who served with the Prince Albert Volunteers in 1885, some pages from "Reminiscences of the North-West Rebellions" by Major Charles Boulton of Boulton's Scouts (1886), a book entitled "Back to Batoche: 100th Anniversary" by the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society of Alberta (1985), a book entitled "The Riel Rebellion - 1885" by Frank Anderson and Robert K. Allen, the May 1885 issue of "Newest Review" inlcuding an article by Desmond Morton on "'Old Fred' Middleton," and "The Trounce Diaries: Saskatoon in 1885" by Don Kerr. File also includes a historical map bordered by artistic depictions of Rebellion sites entitled "Historical Map of the North-West Parts of the Districts of Saskatchewan & Assiniboia Dominion of Canada 1885" produced by the Saskatchewan Heritage 1885 Committee. File also includes a special insert from the Saskatoon Star Phoenix entitled "The Northwest Rebellion" to celebrate the centennial of the events released in 1985. File also contains several miscelleaneous papers relating to the Uprising, mainly hand typed. Also includes an article from Oregon on Louis Riel entitled "Louis Riel: Executed unknown American" offering an American perspective on Mr. Riel.
