Scope and contentFile contains a presentation by Charlotte Hazel and Alenda Dejarlais-Louish, Native Council of Nova Scotia. The two presenters discuss the issues their organization deals with in Zone 12 of Nova Scotia, including: the recongition of Aboriginal people in Canada (in this sense Metis, Non-Status Indians, and Inuit) by the federal government in practice, the recognition of non-Aboriginal people as Aboriginal by the federal government due to custom-adopting, issues with Bill C-31, issues with the Indian Act, employment and training issues, racism and discrimination, employment equity issues, the need for more Aboriginal counsellors, education concerns, Non-Status and Metis issues generally (who the Council represents), social services issues, addiction issues, language issues, justice issues, and funding issues. Following the presentation Commissioners Erasmus and Robinson discuss some of the issues raised with the two presenters.
