Historical note	Dr. Waiser recieved provincial and university funding to write a new provincial history to coincide with the Provincial Centennial in 2005. The book was aimed at appealing to a popular audience while offering graduate students experience in historical research. When completed it was presented as a gift to the province from the University of Saskatchewan.
Scope and content	The file contains working files for the book Saskatchewan: a new history, specifically dealing with Grant Devine's premiership. Contents pertaining to Aboriginal topics include: handwritten research notes on the extraction of natural resources in Northern Saskatchewan and its effects on Aboriginal communities there; handwritten research notes on F. Laurie Barron and Joseph Garcea’s “Urban Indian Reserves” detailing the establishment of several in the province during the 1980s; handwritten research notes from Miles Goldstick’s “Wollaston: People Resisting Genocide” on conflict between the Lac la Hache band, FSIN, the provincial government, and uranium concerns; handwritten research notes on the Free Trade Debate in Saskatchewan which make mention of Aboriginal responses; a copy of an article from the Saskatoon Star Phoenix entitled “Outraged Sinclair lambastes Devine”; a copy of an article from the Saskatoon Star Phoenix entitled “Hope for native-rule pact slim, even with surprise session” (27 Mar 87); a copy of an article (Saskatoon Star Phoenix? March 14, 92) entitled “Natives divided over Charter: Women will not accept self-government without guarantee of rights”; a copy of an article from the Saskatoon Star Phoenix entitled “Devine says ‘no’ to natives” (March 27, 1987); a copy of an article from the Globe and Mail entitled “Mulroney blames premiers after talks with natives fail”(March 28, 1987); a copy of an editorial from the Saskatoon Star Phoenix entitled “Premiers’ stands differ on native rights, trade”; a copy of an article entitled “Native self-government talks stall over question of ‘inherent’ right” (March 27, 1987).
