Scope and contentJohn Macdonald became operator in Battleford on the Government Telegraph line in 1880. During the North-West Rebellion, he served with General Middleton's force as telegraph operator. The papers include manuscripts and poems about his experiences in the Battleford area, correspondence pertaining to the "Custer Massacre", a handwritten history of the Dominion Telegraph and newspaper clippings about the North-West Rebellion and early settlement in the west.
