Historical noteThe Local History Room (LHR) is a special section of the Saskatoon Public Library focusing on prairie history, with an emphasis on Saskatoon. Opened Mar. 4, 1967, the Local History Room encompasses the roles of an archives, library, museum and gallery. Its mandate is to collect, preserve and make available to the public, primary and secondary source materials pertaining to the history of Saskatoon in particular, and to Saskatchewan and western Canada in general.
Scope and contentThis collection assembled by Local History Room staff contains biographical information on people of note connected to Saskatoon and area, including Aboriginal people. The material consists of clippings from newspapers including the Star Phoenix and Saskatoon Sun, as well as from books, letters, journals and magazines, government news releases, pamphlets, and unpublished typescripts. This record lists Aboriginal people in the collection with last names beginning with N, O and P. Researchers may want to check the onsite finding aid as some names could have been left out.
