Scope and contentThe file contains numerous materials on Aboriginal history in the area of present day Prince Albert National Park including a photocopy of an article from the "Handbook of North American Indians: Volume 6 Subarctic" by William C. Sturtevant ed., entitled "Western Woods Cree" by James G.E. Smith; a hand written poster detailing the historical seasonal activities of the Woods Cree (presumably by Dr. Waiser?); a series of documents by federal officials related to the surveying and establishement of the Montreal Lake Reserve No. 106 at Montreal Lake, Saskatchewan as well as one document on the renaming of Big Trout Lake, SK. as Crean Lake, SK; survey maps of the Montreal Lake Reserve No. 106; a recipe card with handwritten notes (presumably by Dr. Waiser) on various Woods Cree spiritual beliefs; handwritten notes on the reverse side of computer paper (presumably by Dr. Waiser) on various aspects of Cree history in the area of what is today Prince Albert National Park; handwritten notes by Dr. Waiser on lined paper regarding interviews with people whose ancestors had resided at the Narrows and Crean Lake in what is now Prince Albert National Park (includes discussion of Windigo, Plains and Woods Cree usage of the park area); a letter from Acting Superintendent of Prince Albert National Park J.A. Wood regarding the renaming of Big Trout Lake as Crean Lake and the reasons why he thinks it should retain it's former name with reference to a Cree legend (1927); a copy of notes on graves excavated at Mud Creek, Pease Point, and the Narrows Peninsula by Ellen Lee in Prince Albert National Park (1983); a handwritten family tree of the offspring of one James Bird and his son Samuel Bird Sr.; a copy of a six page excerpt entitled "A Preliminary Report of Archaeological Fieldwork in Prince Albert National Park, 1973 by Eugene M. Grybs published by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (pgs 13-16 only) which discusses the Narrows as a site inhabited for millenia by Plains and Woods oriented cultures; a three page document entitled "Indian Grave Sites 1981" which discusses grave sites at Lavallee Lake, Kingsmere Lake, the Narrows, and a location named Bear Trap, all indicated by interviewees James Settee and Antoine Lavallee, also includes a map of the aforementioned sites; a copy of a Parks report detailing various archaeological sites throughout Prince Albert National Park; a list entitled "Archaeological Site Inventory for PANP" (1987) including all known historic and prehistoric sites within Park boundaries, as well as a map detailing the location of these sites; a report entitled "Final Report of the 1973 Archaeological Survey of Prince Albert National Park: Findings and Recommendations" by Eugene M. Gryba (1974) Manuscript Number 319, Parks Canada.
