Scope and contentCorrespondence and memoranda exchanged between Mr. G.J. Matte, head of the Northern Areas branch of the Department of Indian Affairs, and the D.N.R. concerning construction improvements such as drainage operations or bridge building, fire protection, squatters, and timber operations. Of special note is a "Report on the Indian and Half-Breed Question" prepared by a Roman Catholic missionary at La Loche, and termed "one of the most complete reports on this question...ever read." It appears that relations were not always the best between the two departments, as frequently the Northern Areas use of D.N.R. equipment and men, and expectations of D.N.R. financial support in fire-fighting lead to D.N.R. protests.
