Scope and content | A miscellaneous collection of George Catlin, who produced two major collections of paintings of North American Indians and published a series of books chronicling his travels among the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Printed in Part Five of Miscellaneous Documents of the House of Representatives for the First Session of the Forty-Ninth Congress, 1885-86 in 26 Volumes, this being Volume 26. Contains many sketches and information compiled by Catlin primarily on Aboriginal tribes of the great plains. Includes ethnographic notes and commentary on Catlin's original (1830s-1840s) notes. | |
