| Historical note | Loyal Till Death: Indians and the North West Rebellion was co-authored with Professor Blair Stonechild, head of Indigenous Studies at the First Nations University of Canada. The book was praised for its sensitivity in telling the stories of Indians during this turbulent time. It won a 1997 Saskatchewan Book Award for First Peoples Publishing and was a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award for non-fiction. | |
| Scope and content | The file contains various documents compiled by Dr. Waiser during the research and writing of "Loyal Till Death:Indians and the Northwest Rebellion" (1997). These include: numerous copies of correspondence from Father Grandin at the Bear's Hill Reserve (1885) from the Provincial Archives of Alberta (Accession No.84.400|722); 2 copies of correspondence realted to events in 1885 (sender and origin unknown); a copy of an article entitled "The Rebellion at Lac La Biche" by Evelyn Rowand from the Alberta Historical Review; a copy of an interview transcript entitled "1885 Resistance Project: Oral History on Loon Lake" with Alex Stick transcribed by Tyrone Tootoosis; a typed translation of a letter from one Delorme to Beau-Frere (source not not given April 18, 1885); copies of correspondence to Dr. Waiser from David Lee and Diane Payment with attached genealogical information on the Trottier and Jobin families; two typed pages with handwritten edits from an early draft of "Loyal Till Death" (pgs 263, 269); a copy of a map detailing the buildings at Onion Lake (1885?) origin uncertain; a copy of correspondence from the Hudson's Bay Company Archives discussing the location and dimension of buildings at Fort Pitt in 1885; a copy of an article from the Alberta Historical Review (v.33 #4) entitled "Medicine Hat and the Rebellion" by William Cousins; a copy of correspondence between Jim Miller and Bill Waiser in which Dr. Miller suggests edits to an early draft of "Loyal Till Death"; a copy of an article from the Alberta Historical Review (v.33 #2) entitled "Calgary and the Rebellion" edited by Hugh A.
