Scope and contentFile contains a photocopy of D. J. Hall's article, "Clifford Sifton and Canadian Indian Administration, 1896-1905." Taken from Prairie Forum, 1977, Vol. 2, No. 2. pp. 127-151. He argues that although Sifton promoted the swift civilization of Indians and a move toward self-sufficiency, he appointed people in positions of authority that were unsympathetic with the plight of Indians. Therefore Sifton's successor, Frank Oliver was able to pursue more aggressive forced acculturation and the grasping of Indian lands.
