Historical noteThe original painting was obtained from Lindemere by Ralph Ward Thorne, while Thorne was working as a Bank of Montreal bank manager in Battleford, Sk., in turn given to Thorne's son in 1932 as a gift. The title on the back of the painting is "A Cree Indian Medicine Man in Full Dress." The painting appears to have been altered by Lindemere since the photograph was taken; the completed painting there is no cliff in the background and the horizon line is just above ankle level.
Scope and contentA black & white photograph of Richard Lindemere's painting of an Aboriginal person in ceremonial dress. The person wears a fur [bear] robe and a [wolf] mask and carries a hand drum and a large spear.
