Scope and contentFile contains a photocopy of the first galley proof of Canadian Indian Policy: A Critical Bibliography by Robert J. Surtees, Bloomington: Published for the Newberry Library; Indiana University Press, c1982. Some of Barron's notes appear in the margins. It is a comprehensive work that begins with the "French Period: 1608-1763" then "The British Period: 1763-1867" and finishes with "The Canadian Period, 1867 to present." It begins with a list of several books recommended for beginners. This work claims to trace the evolution of policy in the most comprehensive book to date. "Canadian Indian policy evolved over four centuries. It has involved the positive and passive participation of three distinct regimes--French, British, and Canadian--and has been shaped by factors ranging from the needs of traders to the international balance of power. An extensive bibliography on this topic appears at the end of the work.
