Scope and content | File contains a variety of miscellaneous papers on the early history of Prince Albert and area. Included in the file are an uncredited paper on the Natural and Human history of Prince Albert, a reminiscence entitled "William Miller (Miller's Hill) Prince Albert Saskatchewan" by Mr. Miller's daughter Georgina Freeborn, a paper entitled "Pioneer Days" by Archie Ballantyne which relates Aboriginal maple syrup tapping on islands in the Saskatchewan Rivers, and the Battle of Duck Lake amongst other things, a "Report on Vegetation in the NOrth Saskatchewan River Valley" by Don MacPhedran, a recollection by Patrice Fleury on early life in the area and the traumatic events of 1884-85, reminiscences by Alexander Campbell, an article from the Prince Albert Daily Herald, January 5, 1924 entitled "Mrs. George Mills, One Original Nisbet Party Founders Prince Albert in 1866, Relates her Experiences Early Days," a paper entitled "The Town of Prince Albert and its Surroundings" by Charles Morton, a reminiscence by an unidentified member of the Crain or Badger families (John or James Smith Bands?), an untitled paper discussing the trade of liquor with Aboriginal people, a paper entitled "Some Reminiscences of the Riel Rebellion" by Rev. Archibald Sinclair (?), a paper on gold dredging on the North Saskatchewan River based on information provided by James McKay, an article entitled "Thomas McKay Employed as Scout" discussing the 1885 Uprising by Richmond Mayson (no source or date given), a paper entitled "Some Rambling Reminiscences of the Early '90's" by Robert Smith, an article from the Prince Albert Daily Herald (1935) entitled "Reminiscences of Early Prince Albert" by Dr. A.E. Porter, an article (Prince Albert Daily Herald?) entitled "Nisbet Party's Arrival Retold in New Version," an article entitled "Yester-years: Prince Albert Mission" from an unidentified source, also includes a timeline of the communities development from 1862 onwards, a paper entitled "Through the Years" highlighting the community's history from Peter Pond to the 1900s, a statement by James Crane on early Prince Albert, and correspondence between H.S. Moberly of Batoche, SK and the Prince Albert Oldtimer's Association (1927), and some historical notes by Arnold Agnew on information compiled by 1930s local historian Harold Ross. | |
