Scope and content | Photograph depicts 2 men sitting on grass. Horses and buildings in background. Accompanying type-written text (source unknown) reads: "The aboriginals were never in a hurry and it was a frequent occurrence to see the bucks loafing in this wise no matter how important their mission. The man with the hat on is supposed to be hunting the band of ponies which had strayed, as indicated by the coiled lariat on his knee. The other is an aquaintance [sic] from a distance, his ponie [sic] stands in the rear, the string around the neck of the white cayuse has the effect of making the animal think it tied and on mounting, the rider will hitch the cord around the lower lip of the ponie [sic] to serve as a bridle. To the right another couple talk but only an arm reaching for a parcel may be seen. In the distance stand the buildings of the reservation." | |
