Scope and content | A photograph and short amount of text taken from a 1935 newspaper article which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1885 Riel resistance. The photo is captioned "Whitecap, chief of the Sioux tribe, and his two squaws." The article celebrates the activity of the Governor-General's Body Guard who "captured Chief Whitecap before he and his braves could supplement Big Bear in the rebel forces." This is a one-sided version of history that has since been discredited. Part of series LH-4080b to LH-4080d which were together in a home-made scrapbook. LH-5418 is the same photograph. | |
