Scope and contentFile contains a photocopy of Antonio Gualtieri's article, "Indigenization of Christianity and Syncretism Among the Indians and Inuit of the Western Artic." From Canadian Ethnic Studies, vol. 12, no. 1, 1980. pp. 47-57. He concludes there was little idigenization of Christianity, other than the extensive translation of the scriptures to Native languages. Although the Native peoples were often described as having little or no previous religion, this was premised upon European definitions of religious structures and forms. His method was to interview priests at several locations along the MacKenzie river, Northwest Territories.
