Scope and contentThis file contains materials relating to Louis Riel, including the booklets The Story of Louis Riel: The Rebel Chief and 1885 – The Riel Rebellion by Frank Anderson. Also included is a music sheet for the song “Riel”, written by Jim Munro; an original copy and photocopy of a newspaper article dated 19 Nov 1885 (written in French) about Riel’s execution; and a photocopy of Riel’s last letter to his wife and children dated 16 [November 1885]. Also included a photocopy of an article titled The Collected Writings of Louis Riel, from Volume 3, 5 June/juin 1884-16 November/novembre 1885 (written in French) and published by The University of Alberta Press. Also included is a photocopy of Riel’s Journal, stating that the diary is a translation from the original; a photocopy of the Riel family tree written in French and titled Les ancetres de Louis Riel / files de Louis Riel et Julie Lagimodere; numerous original and photocopied newspaper articles relating to the Northwest Rebellion and Riel, and pamphlets relating to the Riel House National Historic Park in St. Vital, Manitoba. Also included is the booklet titled My Love Affair With Louis Riel by Lillian Gibbons and published in 1969, which offers personal stories about Riel. Also included are photocopies of Riel’s last letter to his mother.
