Historical noteRev. John Richard Matheson was the husband of Dr. Elizabeth (Scott) Matheson. They were married in 1891, and she went with him to the Anglican mission on a reserve at Onion Lake, 200 miles Northwest of Saskatoon. As well as a missionary, he served as builder, rancher and trader to finance their work. After she completed medical studies at his urging, he built her a small mission hospital at Onion Lake, and the couple ran a mission school there.
