Historical note | The Anglican Diocese of Qu'Appelle encompasses most of southern Saskatchewan west to the Medicine Hat, Alberta area. It roughly covers the area included in Treaty 4, although some exceptions exist. | |
Scope and content | A history of the Anglican Diocese of Qu'Appelle from its establishment in 1884 until the time of writing in 1958. A brief section on Aboriginal people is included on pgs 59-60 entitled "Our Indian Work." This includes discussion of five reserves and the Gordon residential school. Some of the other history touches indirectly on First Nations and Metis people as well, including discussion of the establishment of the Diocese of Rupert's Land, and Qu'Appelle in the context of British 19th Century Imperial Expansion and the Fur Trade. | |
