Historical note | The Stott site, near Brandon, MB, was located in 1945 by landowner Frank Stott who uncovered cultural material while digging a cellar for his home. During subsequent text excavations, mounds of an Assiniboine village were discovered in 1954 on the upper river terrace of the site. Reassessment of the site over the following decades has resulted in a substantial reinterpretation. Over the course of hundreds of years Native peoples made intensive use of the area for bison hunting and numerous other subsistence activities. | |
