City Administration

Cities need many different people serving many different administrative functions in order to run efficiently. The mayor and city council members are an important part of the city administration, but they serve only one facet of the many needs of a municipal government. City clerks and city commissioners helped to run the daily minutiae of the city's needs, obligations and commitments. Services like a public library enhanced the profile of Regina and attracted many new settlers to the community. Many other elements needed to come together to make Regina an attractive place to live.

Because Regina was the seat of government for the North West Territories , and later became the capital city of Saskatchewan , it served as an administrative centre not only for the town proper but also for the area all around Regina . From its earliest days, Regina had a courthouse, a land titles office and a post office. These facilities enabled residents of the city and of the region to carry out their daily business affairs and helped to ensure Regina 's place as the economic, cultural and political centre in southern Saskatchewan .
