Alpine Arnica
(Sunflower Family)
Arnica alpina

I am amazed at how life in the arctic gets along, despite its short summers and long winters, to present us with so many different species of plants. Another problem faced by plant life in the northern region is the lack of light. True, this is the land of the Midnight Sun and for a few months the sun never sets. However this northern landscape is not famous for its sunny weather. Even in the height of summer, the sky might be overcast and grey for days on end. On this part of the planet, months go by with hardly any light as all.
