Curator's note | The Canadian Northern Railway was established in 1899. To compete with the Canadian Pacific Railway it built a line from the Prairies to the harbor at Port Arthur-Fort William. When it encountered financial difficulties in 1918 it was nationalized by the federal government and merged into the Canadian National Railway. |
