Curator's note | John East was the first to establish a foundry operation in Saskatoon in 1910. Two of its trade-mark slogans were: "If it's made of cast iron we make it" and "If it's done in a machine shop we do it." The John East plant consisted of a foundry, pattern shop, blacksmith shop, machine shop and oxy-acetylene welding room. The foundry manufactured cast gears, flame sheets, pistons, piston rings and gears for any make of tractor. Also castings for water and sewer connections of many types. |
