Scope and content | Image of employees in the dressmaking department of the Cairns Department Store at Saskatoon, SK. Except for equipment resembling a spindle, machinery is conspicuous by its absence. The women are sewing by hand, or engaged in other tasks in a large workroom. be Cairns Inscribed on back: "Margaret Mighton - 2nd from left; Miss Wilson - at back head seamstress from Goderich, Ontario. Miss Lillian Pye - married Mr. McFarland, the jeweller. Came in 1906 and opened in 1907." This is the third store opened in Saskatoon by James Cairns; at the time of this photo the business employed approximately 75 people. Location on 2nd Avenue.
