The Mouse That Roared

ParticipACTION: A Marketing and Health Communication Success Story

You can download the PDF version of "The Mouse that Roared" here.

In June, 2004, a comprehensive documentation of ParticipACTION’s history, strategies and, most important, relevant learnings for future health and physical activity promotion leaders, was published as a special supplement to the Canadian Journal of Public Health.

Under the leadership of Peggy Edwards, a team of health communication and research specialists donated their time and talent to produce the content.

Specialists from the Canadian Public Health Association assisted with the attractive design and printing requirements.

Funding for this initiative was personally donated by over sixty “friends of ParticipACTION”, plus a number of corporations and organizations.

All of these contributors felt strongly that the valuable learnings and successful strategies pioneered by ParticipACTION needed to be available for the benefit of future health and physical activity promotion leaders – nationally and internationally. In so doing, ParticipACTION “lives on.”

ParticipACTION is indebted to the Canadian Public Health Association, a valued partner throughout its existence.

About the CPHA

The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) is a national, independent, not-for-profit, voluntary association representing public health in Canada, with links to the international public health community.

CPHA’s members believe in universal and equitable access to the basic conditions which are necessary to achieve health for all Canadians. CPHA’s mission is to constitute a special national resource in Canada that advocates for the improvement and maintenance of personal and community health according to the public health principles of disease prevention, health promotion and protection and healthy public policy.

The Canadian Journal of Public Health contributes to CPHA’s mission through the publishing of original articles, reviews and correspondence on related aspects of public health.

The CHPA has generously made, "The Mouse that Roared: A Marketing and Health Communications Success Story" available on their web site in PDF format. We encourage you to visit their site for a wealth of information, links, articles and other information about health for Canadians.
